Media Services' General Ledger (G/L) module fully integrates with all other Media Services software modules and provides a powerful tool for creating financial reports.
Data posted into the G/L maintains its link to where it came from. This gives you the ability to select an item in the G/L and "drill-down" to its original source. For example, when looking at a G/L revenue code you could drill-down and view the transaction in the Accounts Receivable module and then further drill-down and view the original order detail.
Unlike generic G/L applications, the Media Services G/L has been designed for the publishing industry. Examples of this are the ability to create financial reports for specific magazine issues and automatic entries to handle deferred billing from the sub modules (e.g. subscription orders).
The G/L module allows for the comparison of three different sets of figures; Budgets, Forecasts and Actuals. The Financial Report writer is flexible and easy to use. It works around the concept of 'templates', whereby once a report has been designed it can be run in a variety of formats simply by choosing a different template. For example, one template may compare budgets to actuals, another template may compare this year to last year. Other features of the Report Writer include the ability to create report footnotes or comments; the ability to perform mathematical functions; and the ability to download reports to a spreadsheet.
